Designed by the award-winning team at Technē  Architects,                                Tonka is a restaurant that offers a  captivating spatial relationship between the iconic graffitied walls of Flinders Lane, and sweeping views of the Yarra River and city park, Birrarung Marr.   

Enter through a concealed entrance into Tonka’s Thali Bar, where cocktails and tandoor plates are offered to guests in a relaxed, casual space.

Travel through the kitchen dry store, a slender corridor of spices, before emerging into the open-plan dining room, where Naomi Troski’s  ethereal art installation ‘Drift’ graces the ceiling.

A matrix of powder-coated mesh and fibreglass poles, Troski’s artwork is a site-specific installation that responds to colour and light. Comprised of individually folded modules, the artwork curls and loops over itself, contracting and expanding, directing the viewer’s gaze to keep moving throughout the space.

SEMI-PRIVATE SPACE

Tonka’s dining room offers a semi-private dining space for 10-35 guests, sectioned off from the main dining room with partitions that allow the light and atmosphere of the restaurant to intermingle throughout the service.

PRIVATE EVENTS

Tonka has the capacity to welcome as many as 60 guests for a seated dining experience, or 100 guests  for cocktails and canapes, so whether you’re planning for a personal celebration or corporate dinner, Tonka’s dining space creates opportunities for all kinds of events.
